Resource Saving Tips

Here’s an article I found that helps save money all over the house.

Living an eco-friendly lifestyle can begin inside your own four walls.

Everyone is taught as a child to turn off the water while they brush their teeth, but there is a lot more you can do to conserve water inside of your home.

For starters, running your dishwasher when it’s full saves more water than hand washing. However, using the garbage disposal could waste it. Garbage disposals can use large amounts of water.

A minor tweak to your water heater could also go a long way. Lower your water heater temperature from 140 degrees to 120 degrees. That should give you the a comfortable shower and save on your home energy usage.

When it comes to your air conditioning usage during the hot summer months:

There are rooms in people’s homes that they don’t use very often. Close the vents in those parts of the house and that will let you use your air conditioning more efficiently in the parts that are being used.

Don’t underestimate the use of your natural air conditioner. The fan can draw warm air from upstairs through the cold duct work in the basement and give you a natural air conditioning to some degree. It will allow your air conditioner to run less, and still cool your home at a more affordable price, using less electricity.

One more tip: Unplug your cell phone and tablet chargers along with your television and microwave when you are not using them. They use energy when plugged in, even when not in use.
